The team building concept is not new. For some time companies have realised the benefits of bonding teams together to maximise efficiency and increase profit. Many associate team building with a bunch of cold and wet people, trying to get a few planks of wood, string, and barrels to float on water. These days however, it is the team building event of a treasure hunt, that optimises a team.

A treasure hunt provides team members with an insight into each others strengths and weaknesses, while the shared experience through participation bonds them together. As a result, the company sees a rise in output and a nice addition to the balance sheet.

The best treasure hunts, are based around the television programme of the same name. Teams compete against the clock or other teams to solve the puzzles and find the treasure. To keep a treasure hunt more interesting, many now feature characters to interrogate, and are set to a theme such as haunted house or espionage.

As a location, the city of Brighton and Hove is at the top of the list. Brighton is easy to get to from cities such as London, by road and rail. It is also able to cater for any event asked of it, including treasure hunts.

To get the most from any team building activity, many companies now outsource the organising of such events to reputable team building companies. This makes sound business sense, as they have the experience, the excellence, and the expertise to ensure that the treasure hunt or any other kind of team building event, runs as it should.

1. Good communication starts at the top: The world’s most respected leaders – whatever their level – give their teams the information they need to do their job well, are active listeners, encourage and applaud involvement and, in so doing, create committed, passionate teams. This habit passes on down through the organization.
2. Make sure managers have the information they believe is relevant to pass on: Managers feel embarrassed and inadequate if they are asked questions by their team that they don’t know the answer too – and crucially don’t know where to look for the answer. Ensure managers have relevant and interesting information and have clear guidelines on where to find corporate information.
3. Ensure managers have special access to information: Nothing is as frustrating to a manager as receiving information at the same time as their team member who joined the company last week. This reduces their motivation and takes away their empowerment to act as communicators.
4. Relieve managers from information overload: As often as managers complain about not having enough information to communicate to their teams, they complain about having too much information so that they are unable to tell what is relevant and important. Stop unnecessary corporate emails and make sure that they important messages are prioritized.
5. Listen to and understand managers: We all know that communication is supposed to be 2 way, but how often is it really? How can we expect managers to communicate with their teams if they feel that their views and those of their teams are ignored by the senior management? Ensure questions are answered and feedback acknowledged.
6. If managers aren’t passing on your corporate information- stop and ask why! How often do senior managers complain that the company managers are not keeping their teams informed and spend hours discussing how to solve the problem, without investing in the most obvious step – stopping to listen to the managers and find out what the issues are?
7. Make sure that managers understand the benefits of communication with their teams:These include team benefits such as improved teamwork and increased levels of enthusiasm;Company benefits such as an increased ability to represent a united company view to customers; and most importantly the personal benefits to the manager e.g., increased credibility and respect with customers and colleagues and increased job satisfaction.
8. As well as information and motivation managers need the right skills to be good communicators: Review the managers skills in communication – it’s more powerful when built into a regular appraisal and also supported with the necessary training.
9. Help managers organize and prioritize information: Managers need guidelines as to which messages need prioritization – not everything is important. Remember the boy who cried wolf!
10. Praise and reward the good communicators: It’s easy to moan about poor communication among managers, but how often are your good communicators rewarded? If good communication is showcased and praised this acts as the standard for others to follow.

Since sincere and hard working employees are the real assets of an organization so it is very important to motivate the employees from time to time and boost their morale on a regular basis. Employee gifts can serve to improve productivity, decrease employee turnover and encourage teamwork in the workplace. The following tempered glass gift ideas may help employers choose thoughtful unique corporate gifts for their employees. These gifts are offered online by several retailers.

You are on the team that is in charge of planning a corporate event, such as company picnic, corporate anniversary bash, or office holiday party and have been assigned the task of choosing personalized unique corporate gifts for holiday giveaways. Perhaps you would like to select a trendy idea to entertain clients yet provide promotional items & keepsakes for them that have a practical yet personal and unique use at home as well as the office.

Tempered glass unique corporate gifts can be an excellent choice for those planning such events. Several tempered glass retailers found online offer the ability to accept a photo and then that photo can be used to personalize the gift for the gift recipient in a way that no other gift item can.

Tempered glass gifts are virtually indestructible. Furthermore, with the ability to personalize each gift selection tempered glass gift items are appropriate for Fortune 500 companies, schools, sporting events, fund raising events, awareness events, organizations, small business, government agencies and many other venues. It should be fun and inspiring to see how many thoughtful ways a unique corporate gift can be given.

One aspect of life we all have the same is time. Yes everyone has time. Its not like money, where some people have it and others do not. No, time is available to everyone. The question is….how do you use your time? Did you know that the time that you waste today watching a movie, or playing video games is’nt going to come back…yes that’s right! you can’t save time. Have you ever noticed how time sometimes moves slowly or moves fast. Originally it was Einsteins idea who said “Do what you love best” because when you love what your doing Time is not an issue. But when you hate your job, your life, your wife…Time moves so slow. Oh! and did you know our time is limited on this earth?

Yes..some day we all will die. (a very sad statement) but we have to use our resources, money, our mindset the best way we can in order to live better and enjoy our life. Time is an important issue and we all should consider how valuable it really is. School, college, Degrees, all are important and take time, and that time is good because your continually improving yourself. But Time wasted is gone. As a student I have wasted 6 months during the summer when I took a break off and just did nothing. It was the dumbest thing I ever did. I should’ve took a loan and continued on with school. But we all have our ups and downs some are worse than others. My suggestion to you all is to continually improve on skills and experience because down the road you never know when the perfect opportunity might cross your road.

We can organise a teambuilding day out or weekend away, encouraging the crew to use their initiative and make supervised decisions in unfamiliar surroundings. We cater for novices and experienced sailors alike, with all our skippers able to provide advice on the finer points of racing, or simply to help the uninitiated unravel the jargon of sailing.

Island Charters can provide full catering for the day, a qualified skipper and wet gear.

For those of you feeling adventurous and in need of a fresh challenge, race at one of the country’s top regattas such as Round the Island Race, Cowes Week, Dartmouth Royal Regatta, Cork Week and many others. Or why not get a works’ team together to participate in one of the inter-industry regattas, and beat your competitors with your great sailing teamwork?

Say the words ‘treasure hunt’ and images of Anneka Rice solving puzzles against the clock, or pirates pondering over a map spring to mind. Not many people associate treasure hunts with team building, and yet this is now a popular and widely used team building activity.

The idea behind the treasure hunt event is that a team shares an experience in a pressurised environment. Through participation, the team forms a deeper camaraderie and team members gain an invaluable insight into each others strengths and weaknesses, enabling the team leader to reorganise the team so it plays to its strengths. This is brought back into the workplace, utilised, and their company sees the results on the balance sheet.

A treasure hunt is a lot like the old television programme. Teams compete against each other or the clock to solve puzzles and find the treasure. To make them more interesting and fun, many treasure hunts are set to a theme like haunted house, or espionage, and feature characters to interrogate.

The county of Cambridgeshire is well supported by an excellent road and rail network which links it to many cities in the UK. It is seen by many event management companies as an ideal place to host team building and corporate hospitality events. Cambridgeshire has good locations both indoor and outdoor, and can cater for any activity asked of it.

To bring a treasure hunt to life, many corporations now use event management companies to ensure the day goes as well as it should. This makes sound business sense, as they have the knowledge, the experience, and the expertise to ensure the day is a success.

Though raft building is still used to form this all important bond, many companies now use a treasure hunt activity which offers the same benefits, without the possibility of getting wet. They also have an emphasis on fun, especially if the treasure hunt is set to a theme such as espionage or haunted house, and features characters to interrogate.

The general idea of a treasure hunt is more or less identical to the television programme of the same name. Teams compete against the clock or other teams to solve the clues and find the treasure. As this can only be done through teamwork, the participants receive the benefits outlined above.
